BERNINA NORTHLAND FASHION AWARDS
There are 6 Sewing and 6 Wearable Arts categories to choose from, accommodating young, beginner level sewists and artists through to more experienced sewists and artists.
Each category has a broad ranging definition to allow your creativity to blossom within. We encourage you to explore your creativity while having fun in the process, culminating in showcasing your creative talent in this prestigious event.
As a designer you are eligible for the Northland Designer of the Year award and the Extreme Elegance award on top of the category awards.
As a model you are eligible for the Northland Top Model award.

There are 6 sewing categories to choose from, accommodating young, beginner sewists through to more experienced sewists. The sewing categories all have an element of sewing skill and garment finishing that is critiqued as part of the judging process. Please browse the categories for further details.

As walk down the street what would you like to be wearing? Design a garment that reflects your vision and personality.
Judges will be looking at the cut, fit, finish and originality of your design. They are looking for a garment that is beyond just follow- ing a pattern.

Casual / street wear designed by you. Make your mark with a well- constructed garment of original design suitable for daytime wearing.
Judges will be looking at the cut, fit, finish and originality of your design. They are looking for a garment that is beyond just following a pattern.

Pacifica Fashion can be your take on high fashion in the pacific. This is an opportunity to design and make a garment that is truly original, following no other designer, however having a pacifica flavour.
Judges will be looking at fit, originality, innovation in fashion, connection to the pacific and the overall finish of your garment.

From Trash to Fashion
Create a fashionable garment made predominantly from reused / recycled materials and objects. This is recycling at its best! Your garment will need to withstand two parades (pre judging and the event).
Judges will be looking at creativity, visual impact, originality, construction, materials employed to be 90% reused / recycled items and best use of materials.

Design an amazing mask using any medium. Large and small, weird and wonderful the masquerade is all about having fun while remaining anonymous. The model is to wear simple dark clothing so all attention is on the masquerade. Judges will be looking at design concept, construction and technique, creativity, visual impact, and best use of materials.
